Meissen to Decin (CZ) - a gorgeous ride

It's been a while since we've been online - due to the wrong kind of leaves in Dresden and two national holidays in the Czech Republic, all to do with Jan Hus (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Hus) apparently.

Today's run: 101 km
Running total: 262 km

We were so lucky with our longest ride so far. The routes were perfect, we had some serious tail wind for the first time and cruised through nicely for most of the beautiful route with smiles on our faces... :-)

We set off from Meissen along the "Wine Route of Saxony" (http://cms.elbland.de/opencms/opencms/elbland.de/de/ch_home/) and on to Dresden, which we know well, but is always a feast for the eyes.

It only seems a moment ago that I was cycling along the same route with Ali, Duncan and the girls a month ago, albeit in the opposite direction.

We made swift progress through the 'Saxon Switzerland' region towards the Czech border, which had no passport controls, but some nice artwork along the route on both sides of the frontier - maybe some schools exchange thingy. I'll spare you the border crossing photos - I look a bit of a plonker.

We pressed on to Decin, where we hoped to find a cheap hotel and some very cheap, authentically greasy food and some yummy beer for a third of the price of the Kraut side. The place we booked was very nice, though at the top of a very steep hill. The problem was, we went up the wrong very steep hill - great fun after 100 km and not advisable for any married couples... could get nasty.

But hey, we had our first delicious Czech meal and all was cool.

Accident of the day: I cut my wrist open... as the curtain rail plus wooden cladding fell on me while I tried to close it.. Not your classic cycling injury but this is a dangerous business. Fortunately, nurse Reichardt was on the scene to give me a very large bandage that I felt appropriate to my discomfort.
